Over recent years the cost of preparing grass wickets has become increasingly expensive and combined with the temperamental British summer time can make things very difficult.
Trustees of the 1701 Society agreed to a request from the school to install an artificial wicket in the top cricket square at the school. This will be used for all Key Stage 3 games and also House cricket for the younger years. It will save several thousands of pounds each year in reduced preparation costs and also improve the quality of the grass wickets for older years and the OWs by reducing usage and wear.
We are hugely grateful to all the 1701 Society members without whose support none of this would be possible. At a time when school funding is ever more tightly squeezed, anything that goes beyond a basic provision is extremely difficult to afford. The support of 1701 Society members enables us to continue to offer exceptional opportunities for all. We are looking forward to future projects further supporting areas such as music and drama.
